I see design as an opportunity to connect, with intention.
Hi, I’m Sam! I’m a freelance designer and illustrator with nearly 10 years of experience helping brands and organisations communicate clearly and creatively. I’ve worked on everything from branding and websites to visual identities and print materials, collaborating with clients like Sony, Home Ice Cream, and The Cancer Council.
I’m passionate about using design to tell stories, connect with people, and make an impact. Whether you need a brand refresh, a custom illustration, or a complete digital campaign, I love creating work that’s purposeful and resonates with your audience.
If you’re looking for a designer who blends creativity with clear communication, I’d love to hear about it!

Lifehouse Resource Centre
Visual Identity, logo design, social media, print design and layout design
This project is close to my heart, as my parents were part of the team that started Lifehouse over 20 years ago. I grew up around this organisation and have seen it grow from the ground up.
When I was asked to give Lifehouse a breath of life, I had a unique insight into the heart behind the brand. Lifehouse works with social services across the coast to provide referred families and individuals with whitegoods, furniture, linen, household items, and clothing, all free of charge.
With this in mind, the tagline “building blocks for a new life” felt like the perfect way to describe the work they were doing. With a focus on helping people build a new life for themselves, building blocks became a key part of the visual identity.
Lifehouse is currently working with Containers for Change to fundraise so they can continue to provide for those in need.
I loved working on this and still look back on it with a sense of gratitude for what they do and for the opportunity to help them do it.

Crime Writer book series
Author branding, visual Identity, book cover design & formatting, website design, social media, print design and layout design
I have so much love for this client! We worked together at a film company, and from there began dreaming of sharing a story she had been writing. Cut to five years later: three books (with another on the way), a publishing house, and we are still having fun.
Creating a visual identity for a series is so different from building a brand for a company. There are so many variables to consider, like how colours bleed from one book to the next and how to keep the font sizes consistent throughout the series. A pet peeve of mine is when books are not a complete visual set (I’m looking at you, Sarah J. Maas).
There were many hours on FaceTime, talking through ideas about how to connect with her readers and build a community of like-minded people. Now more people get to see her genius and hilarity.

Goodlife - Young Adults
Visual Identity, branding, social media, print design and layout design
Currently, I’m working with the team at Goodlife Community Centre, and part of the work we do there is Young Adults Ministry.
Earlier in the year, new pastors joined the team, bringing with them a new vision. We sat down and talked through what they wanted and how I could help them build relationships and community through design. They had a love of old artworks and the power of storytelling through imagery.
For their weekly Sunday night meeting, they wanted to call it Taste & See, based on Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” What better way to convey this than with the Last Supper?
They also planned to launch Bible courses for their community to grow in their faith and discover the Word among their peers. With a focus on different parts of the Bible each time, I was able to find artworks based on the scriptures they were studying. I had a lot of fun searching through old archives from Bible colleges and museums.

Blue Dragon children's book
Book cover & formatting, character illustration, print design and layout design
This project was near and dear to my heart. A client came to me with a story her father used to tell his grandkids—a story about the power of doing good, being brave, and helping those in need.
The Blue Dragon became a household name over the years and now stands as his legacy. As this was my first time illustrating an entire children’s book, I used a few books as references, specifically When You Open a Book and Picturebook Makers. Once I started drawing, I began making stylistic choices. For example, the Blue Dragon is the only character with an outline, giving him a distinct visual difference from the world around him.
I also suggested hiding a blue shell, with the same colours and effects as the Blue Dragon, on pages where he doesn’t appear. This served both as foreshadowing of his presence and as a reminder of his significance throughout the story.

Black Canvas agency
Visual Identity, logo design, illustration, website design, social media concepts, canva templates, print design and layout design
For about two years, I worked with a brilliant group of people in Toowoomba at Black Canvas.
During my time there, I worked with 80 clients on a range of design needs, from layout design to packaging design. My area of expertise gradually became illustration, focusing on historic buildings. What started as a project for our yearly calendar to give our clients turned into another service we could offer.
I truly value my time with this team and will always be thankful for the chance to spend my days drawing!
