Blue Dragon

This project was near and dear to my heart. A client came to me with a story her father used to tell his grandkids; a story about the power of doing good, being brave and helping those in need.. The Blue Dragon became a household name over the years and now is his legacy.

As this was my first time illustrating an entire children's book, I used a few books as references specifically When You Open a Book and Picturebook Makers. Once I started drawing, I began making stylistic choices for example the Blue Dragon is the only character that has an outline, giving him the visual difference from the world around him.

I suggested to hiding a blue shell, that shares the same colours and effects as the Blue Dragon, on pages that didn't have him foreshadowing his appearance but also his overall presence when he wasn't on the page itself.
