Two Timer

The second book of a series is significantly more challenging to design because you are deciding what themes you want to keep, how to connect all the books to come while also making sure the book can stand on its own if needed. The writer and I both spent many hours chatting through how we wanted to move forward with the series.

In the end I decided to:

  1. Keep one key colour from the previous book

  2. Continue to use a gradient on one element

  3. Use silhouette people

  4. Keep the gritty texture in the book title

The typefaces and spine layout was decided when I designed the first book, Crime Writer. One design choice I admired when I was researching was designing the spine to bleed into one another. I took this idea and ran with it so when the books are next to each on a bookcase, the spines would connect.
